Roberts headed to British Columbia following Junior A hockey career

Mar 30, 2026 | 3:21 PM

Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Sage Roberts is officially done his Junior A hockey career.

“It was a great experience. I met a lot of good people along the way, and it was just a really fun three years,” he said.

Playing as a forward, Roberts made his Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League debut in October 2022 while still on the protective list. He signed a letter of intent as a forward for the 2023-24 regular season in June 2023, and subsequently, had four goals and five assists in 48 games for the Ice Wolves until being traded to Ontario’s Sioux Lookout Bombers in November 2024.

Roberts played 78 regular season games with the Bombers, earning 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points. He also racked up 34 penalty minutes.

In the 2025 and 2026 playoffs, Roberts played a total 10 games, earning eight goals and six assists.

“I was pretty surprised with how I finished off actually,” he remarked.

“I didn’t think I was going to be much a point guy until I got to Ontario and that’s when I started getting my points up. I was pretty happy with how it ended.”

Roberts explained it was a dream come true for himself as a local athlete to play with his hometown team the Ice Wolves. He’s also appreciative of his time in Ontario, noting he was given further opportunities like more ice time.

“That sort of really helped me get better as a hockey player,” Roberts added.

“The community is just kind of like La Ronge as well, so it was home away from home it felt like.”

While Roberts is on his way back home and plans to play baseball this summer, he will be attending Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops this fall as he is enrolled in criminal studies. He hopes to one day become an officer with a city police force.

Roberts will also continue his hockey career with the Logan Lake Miners in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League.
