Ratte seeking spot on Air Ronge council

Ron Ratte is promising bring high ethical standards and strong leadership to Air Ronge council if he is elected during a byelection later this month. 

“I’m quite active with respect to our community, especially Air Ronge, because I have been living here for 40 years and I’d like to get involved with the members, as well as the business,” he explained. 

“I am quite excited about this. I’m semi-retired and I like to keep myself busy and what better way to continue involving and helping out in our community of Air Ronge.” 

Ratte has a strong background in education and criminal justice. He worked with the Northern Lights School Division for more than a decade, and has served as the director of Indigenous initiatives, as well as Elder-in-Residence at Northlands College.  

Ratte has also worked with the Correctional Service of Canada, justice units with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Prince Albert Grand Council, and he currently serves as a commissioner with Legal Aid Saskatchewan. 

“I’m hoping to continue on with what the council is doing. I have been keeping track and they have been doing quite well in beautifying our community, especially the beach area,” he remarked.  

“I would like to have a little bit more of addressing the criminality of our communities. Hopefully we can try get some kind of strategic plan with respect to criminality with the help of the tri-community governments.” 

Ratte, who is a Lac La Ronge Indian Band member, served on Air Ronge council in the past for one term starting in October 2000. Throughout the years, he has served on a number boards and committees.  

If elected, Ratte promises to be collaborative, fiscally responsible, and transparent. He said he will be outcome driven, as well as value resilience and grassroots engagement.    

The Air Ronge byelection will be held April 22 with an advance poll scheduled for April 9. The only other person running in the byelection is Brent McDougall.
