McDougall on the ballot in upcoming Air Ronge byelection

Brent McDougall is pledging to focus on a strong, healthy community if elected to Air Ronge council later this month.

“I just wanted to do a little bit more for my community,” he said about putting his name forward for the upcoming byelection.

“We do some volunteering in the community and stuff like that, but I just wanted to be a little bit more involved with what’s the future of the community.”

McDougall, who has lived in Air Ronge for about 12 years but in the area for more than 30, is committed to balancing affordability with future growth, keeping residents informed and involved, as well as building a safe, strong, and sustainable community. He also believes in an open-door policy and promises to be approachable.

McDougall serves as a captain with the La Ronge Regional Fire Department, which he has been involved with for more than 20 years. He’s also had a 23-year career with Conexus and is currently the La Ronge bank manager.

“I don’t know 100 per cent of what they got going on, but I just kind of want to maintain what’s going on,” McDougall said of the current village council.

“I think we have a strong mayor and council right now, and I just want to see what they’re working on. I’m not 100 per cent sure about what their five-year plan is, but just kind of working within that and seeing what can be done throughout the community.”

McDougall previously was a councillor in La Ronge from 2009 to 2014.

The Air Ronge byelection will be held April 22 with an advance poll scheduled for April 9. The only other person running in the byelection is Ron Ratte.
