Ice Wolves part ways with Kaminski

Kevin Kaminski is no longer the head coach of the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

The team announced Monday they had mutually decided to part ways at a time the Ice Wolves are looking for new opportunities and a fresh direction. Kaminski had been on a personal leave from the team for more than two months when his departure was made known this week.

“He’s an unbelievable person and he’s taught me so much. He’s someone I will keep in touch with and talk to for the rest of my life. I’m very grateful for everything Killer has done,” said assistant coach Kyle Graham.

“[Since] he came to La Ronge, he has done so much for the team and he will be dearly missed for sure. We’ve got nothing but love for him.”

Kaminski joined the Ice Wolves in April 2019 after Evan Vossen was let go. In 2020, Kaminski was named Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Coach of the Year, and in May 2025, he signed a three-year contract with the team.

In 2023, Kaminski led the Ice Wolves into the first round of the playoffs, but they ultimately fell to the Melfort Mustangs in Game 6. The team ended the 2025-2026 regular season in last place with a record consisting of only 11 wins in 56 games for 27 points. That’s compared to 53 points in 2025 and 37 in 2024.

News of Kaminski’s departure comes a day after the conclusion of the team’s spring camp in Aberdeen. The camp was scheduled to begin on Friday, but it was shortened due to blizzard conditions.

“We’re excited about all the talent we saw on the ice there this weekend. It was very fast-paced and there was a very high compete level in every game,” Graham explained, noting there was about 100 players who attended.

“There were quite a few kids who stood out. We invited a few players from this camp to our main camp towards the end of August, and we made one signing which we will announce soon.”
