New coach for La Ronge Ice Wolves

The La Ronge Ice Wolves have hired Taylor Harnett as the new head coach.

Harnett replaces Kevin Kaminski, who joined the Ice Wolves in 2019 but left in April after a two-month personal leave. Harnett will work with Bob Beatty, who was named as the general manager in May, as well as assistant coach Kyle Graham.

“The process was pretty thorough. I had an opportunity to speak with the president, governor and general manager. I think some good questions were asked. I think an opportunity to coach in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is a great opportunity for anybody who is looking to stay in the Junior A circuit or to get started,” Harnett explained.

“I’m ecstatic for the opportunity. I think Bob Beatty and myself have had some lengthy discussions about the future of the team. We share a lot of the same philosophies. For the most part, I think we are on the same page. It’s huge. It’s going to be exciting.”

Harnett has experience with the British Columbia Hockey League, North American Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League, and most recently with Devon Extreme in Alberta Junior Hockey League.

In the 2025-2026 season, Devon Extreme earned 44 points with 19 wins and 36 losses. They placed 10th out of 12 teams and did not advance to playoffs.

The Ice Wolves have not advanced to the playoffs since 2023. The team ended the 2025-2026 regular season in last place with a record consisting of only 11 wins in 56 games for 27 points. That’s compared to 53 points in 2025 and 37 in 2024.

Harnett noted the Ice Wolves are in the early stages of a plan to turn that record around.

“We’ve had some discussions, and I think once we get the opportunity to really put our thoughts together and come up with some ideas, we’re going to get on the right track,” he said.

“We’re going to put the time in. I know that the passion is there. You have to have passion in order to get to that level of success and that’s something I really gravitated towards with speaking with Kyle and Bob and the people involved with the team.”

Harnett is planning to attend meetings with the Ice Wolves in Warman this weekend, before attending the annual Ice Wolves Alumni Golf Tournament on June 13 in Eagle Point.
