La Ronge couple win Eagle Point Classic
The weather was nearly ideal for the 32nd annual Eagle Point Classic on Saturday.
Husband-wife team Matt Mazurik and Rochelle Yelland were the winners of the main 17.75-kilometre race, finishing in one hour, 47 minutes and 34 seconds. They were only short 18 seconds to beat the all-time race record set by Trevor Robinson and Lori Mack of Saskatoon in 2024.
“It was a beautiful day for racing,” Mazurik said.
“I have only done this race once before and I dumped, so the main goal today was to not dump and coming that close to the race record was surprising, but Rochelle and I executed everything to a tee perfectly. I don’t think we could have come any closer to that record with how we paddled. It was about as good as we could get.”
