OTTAWA — Culture Minister Marc Miller has returned from a five-day trip to China that aimed to deepen cultural ties between the two countries.

Miller travelled to Shanghai, Shenzhen and Suzhou this month with dozens of representatives from Canadian creative industries.

His office says seven new commercial agreements worth more than $4.2 million were signed during the trip.

Almost 50 representatives from 36 Canadian companies and organizations took part, most of them from the interactive digital media industry.

A government news release says Miller met with his Chinese counterpart Sun Yeli and the pair discussed ways to build commercial partnerships and create jobs in the cultural sector.

In Beijing earlier this year, Prime Minister Mark Carney outlined steps to build a new strategic partnership with China, including more cultural exchanges and “people-to-people” ties.
