Ice Wolves to televise final home game of 2025 featuring teddy bear toss

Dec 18, 2025 | 5:00 PM

It will be a rather special final home game of 2025 for the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday.

After the Ice Wolves scores their first goal against the Flin Flon Bombers, fans are encouraged to throw teddy bears on the ice which will then be collected and donated to local organizations to help spread some love this holiday season.

In addition, the game will be televised on SaskTel MAX TV on channels 48 and 348. The Crown corporation will also showcase a player profile they produced about forward Waylon Gardipy.

“Here’s an opportunity for the fans after we score our first goal to throw teddy bears on the ice for some underprivileged kids or who are sick in the hospital to cheer them up a bit,” said head coach Kevin Kaminski.

“It’s obviously a televised game on SaskTel. They have had a group come out here to film one of our players, so that will be cool to see.”

Before the Ice Wolves head home for the Christmas break, they will travel to Flin Flon on Saturday to play against the Bombers in back-to-back action. The Bombers are currently second in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with 39 points, while the Ice Wolves are in last place with 15 points.

In comparison to 2024, the Ice Wolves had about twice as many points at this point in the season.

“Lately, we have played some good hockey. We’ve beat Weyburn, who is the top team in the league, two out of the four games that we played,” Kaminski remarked.

“I think it’s been a learning curve. We’ve only got three 20-year-olds, and the young kids are starting to buy in. When you are young, you have trouble to score and you make young mistakes. I think we are cleaning up some of those mistakes and scoring-wise, we work on it every day. We’ve got to bear down, and we’ve got to capitalize on our opportunities when we get them.”

Ahead of the trade deadline coming in January, Kaminski is looking to make some moves.

“We’re going to see where we’re at here. If there’s the potential to move some of our 20-year-olds, that’s a possibility to get some pieces in here for next year and maybe give those guys an opportunity to maybe go win a cup too,” he added.

“It’s got to be the right offer to build for next year. We’re going to stay young this year and hopefully have a bunch of returning guys for next year. Kind of what Nipawin did. They have 16, 17 guys returning. They struggled last year and came on strong at the end of the year and look at where they are now.”
