RCMP investigate alleged cheating at Montreal Lake Walleye Derby
A popular ice fishing derby in northern Saskatchewan is dealing with allegations of misconduct by a participant.
Montreal Lake Cree Nation (MLCN) issued a statement saying they became aware that a participant allegedly violated the Montreal Lake Walleye Derby rules and was asked to leave the fishing area. The matter was referred to the RCMP and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
Waskesiu RCMP has since confirmed they are investigating a reported case of fraud, but no charges have been laid. No other details pertaining to what exactly happened have been released either.
In its statement, MLCN said there have been no known incidents of fraud in previous years.
