The La Ronge and Area Long-Term Care Fundraising Committee Inc. is leading a $5 million campaign to fund furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the new 80-bed care home, which will include a dialysis unit and expanded therapies area.

At their annual general meeting on Wednesday, it was revealed $3,165,000 has been raised as of March 31.

A total of $1,527,000 has come from community and individual donations, and $1,265,000 has come from business and corporate donations. In addition, $292,000 has come from Indigenous Services Canada, and $80,000 has come from tri-community governments, as well as the Northern Administrative District.

“I feel very proud of where we are with our fundraising goal,” wrote fundraiser coordinator Jacob Page in a statement to larongeNOW.

“Our tri-community, individuals, small businesses, organizations and larger businesses have shown tremendous support for our efforts. Accessible healthcare in our region is so critical, and it truly shows through what we have had committed thus far. We are well on our way there, and I look forward to reaching that goal.”

The document also included details about the committee’s recent Chase the Ace fundraiser. It shows there was $827,000 in ticket sales with net proceeds of $327,000. An additional $418,000 was paid out to winners, and it cost about $87,000 to facilitate with marketing, merchant and licensing fees taken into account.

“Whenever you plan a raffle, whether it is a 50/50 or something similar to a Chase The Ace, you hope it catches on and explodes,” Page noted.

“This is exactly what happened: the first 20 weeks were a bit slow, but the remaining 18 blew my mind! The support not only from our communities, but the province as a whole was extraordinary! It is such a good feeling to say we had over $826,000 in ticket sales, and were able to give away over $418,000 to winners throughout the draw, all while raising a huge amount of money for accessible healthcare. I do want to thank everyone who helped and volunteered.”

In the months ahead, the committee will continue fundraising efforts, and strengthen business and corporate partnerships as they aim to hit their $5 million goal.

The $100 million long-term care facility will reach substantial completion by the end of the year.
