“I hope each of you continue to treat others with kindness, compassion and empathy. To show respect to others even when you may not like them or get along with them, and make the world a better place to live. To find your passion and truly live mitho-pimatisowin (the good life).” 

The recipient of the inaugural Rhonda Watchel Memorial Scholarship went to Alicia Keighley ($500) and Jodi Watt won the award for academic proficiency with 97 per cent.

The 2026 valedictorian was Samantha Unahan, who in her speech thanks teachers, family and friends. She also told her fellow graduates their journey was not easy, and that it was filled with hurdles, detours, and moments where everything felt impossible, but they are now strong and ready for whatever life throws at them. 

“As we move on with our lives with some going to university, working or pursuing other ventures, remember that there will always be people rooting for you,” Unahan said. 

“Don’t be afraid to grab opportunities, take risks, and step into unfamiliar rooms. This is just the beginning of our lives. Always remember to appreciate the now because in the words on my favourite artist, Frank Ocean, ‘if you think about it, it’ll be over in no time and that’s life.’”
