No wins for Ice Wolves during preseason

Harnett noted pre-season is much about working out kinks in the team, but he added he wants it to be more disciplined.

“You’re not really doing yourself too many favours when you are in the penalty box,” he remarked.

“It affects many areas of the game, it affects the score sheet, it affects player’s ice time, so discipline is something I think we are going to take away and we’re going to get better at, but it’s going to get through.”

Leading up to Friday’s home opener against the Bombers, Harnett said they are going to work on being more of a connected group, tactics, systems, defense and offense.

With the new ice plant now installed at the Jonas Robert Memorial Community Centre (JRMCC) and the ice going in, the Ice Wolves are expected to start practicing at their home facility on Wednesday. Preseason games were held at La Ronge Mel Hegland Uniplex.

The home opener will begin with a tailgate party from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and it will include a barbecue, happy hour, karaoke, and the chance to win two season tickets. After the game, there will snacks, drinks and time to socialize with Harnett and this year’s roster.

“We want to make sure our fans are leaving the building happy with the player’s effort. We’re going to play an aggressive and quick style of hockey. In the preseason, we generated a lot of offense, but we were really focusing on our play away from the puck” Harnett said.

“Hopefully the fans get to see some goals go our way and we want to be on the winning side of the games, but our focus right now is Friday. Flin Flon is coming to town and you know you’re going to expect a good effort whenever you see them.”

The team ended the 2025-2026 regular season in last place with a record consisting of 11 wins in 56 games for 27 points.
