89ers come up short against Flyers
It wasn’t meant to be for the La Ronge 89ers last night, who lost 5-3 to the Whitefish Flyers.
“We were playing rec hockey tonight when we should have been playing some senior contact hockey,” head coach Barrett Halkett said. “We should have seen more hitting. We always encouraged our boys to play senior hockey instead of rec hockey.”
The Flyers opened the game with a goal in the first period, but the 89ers quickly passed them with two goals less than a minute apart in the second. The goals for the 89ers came from Floyd Cook and Brandon Bird. The 89ers, however, couldn’t hold on as the Flyers managed to score two more goals in the second and another two in the third to win the match.
With the 89ers currently in third place in the Beaver Lakes Hockey League, Halkett said he’s not concerned about losing the game considering all five teams are headed to playoffs.
