Thousands expected at La Ronge Elk’s Fair this weekend

Organizers of the 2019 La Ronge Elk’s Fair expect up to 5,000 people to attend the three-day event.

“This is an annual event in La Ronge and we have been doing it for the past 30 years or more,” Elks Exulted Ruler Shea Duncan said. “I know with Canuck Amusements we’re one of their main stops. They are always very excited to come here because there is a huge response and a large turnout. I know they get as excited with the people who are coming to the fair as the Elks do.”

The Elk’s Fair, which began Friday at noon, is the club’s major fundraiser of the year. Duncan stated the event allows the group to raise money in order to donate the funds to local charitable causes. This year there are 19 rides available for children and youth, as well as numerous food and merchandise booths, games of chance and more.

Duncan noted residents should be aware of the softball tournament and talent show beginning on Saturday. Registration for the talent show will be open until tomorrow. He also added there will be members of the local Filipino-Canadian community on-site with a special traditional food booth.

“We are always excited to have residents from other communities come in,” he said. “We appreciate all of the support we get and we are looking forward to hopefully a wonderful weekend of fun.”

Those who plan on attending should also be aware there is no outside alcohol allowed on the premises. All bags will be subjected to a search at the gate. The event ends Sunday.
