It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Elizabeth Jensen, late of Prince Albert, SK on October 11, 2019 at the age of 97 years. Audrey was born on June 9, 1932 in Regina, SK to parents: Ellis and Freda Atkinson.
Audrey is survived by her daughter: Annie (Bill) Dennis; her granddaughter Naomi Pope; her son: Henry Jensen; her sisters: Shirley (Alfred) Bryan and Reta Atkinson; her brother: Glen Atkinson; her cousin: Elaine Ritter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents: Ellis and Freda Atkinson; her husband: Clarence Jensen; her brother: Dennis (Kathy) Atkinson; her sister-in-law: Annie Huddleston; her brothers-in-law: Bill, Herb and Dalmer Jensen; and her mother and father-in-law.
Born in Regina, she started life on a farm in Pense, SK. She attended 4 schools through her 8 years of schooling – Mossy Glen, Shannon, Garrick and Choiceland, as her family farmed their way north from southern Saskatchewan. Audrey was the eldest of 5 children, so she helped her dad with the farm chores into her teen. While still a teen, she moved off the farm to Choiceland, later moving to Saskatoon, eventually taking a job at a dept store lunch counter.
She married Clarence Jensen on December 11, 1958, living in Prince Albert. She stayed home to raise her two children, making most meals from scratch. Audrey and Clarence always had a large garden until 1980, home-canning pickles and relish, freezing fruit and vegetables. Homemade jams and jellies came from many hours spent berry-picking in the woods, plus the rhubarb, strawberries and raspberries in the garden.
Audrey took delight in baking cakes, cookies and homemade desserts, as well fudge at Christmas as a special treat. Her hobbies, aside from gardening, included embroidery work, reading and watching her favorite shows. She went back to work in 1975, working in the kitchen of the Sheraton Marlboro in Prince Albert, SK. When surgery went wrong in 1977, she became paralyzed below the waist, living the rest of her life in a wheelchair. She lived out her last 16 years in the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, SK. Thank you to the carers of the Herb Bassett Nursing Home for their care and support during mom’s stay.
