Irene Emma Michayluk passed away peacefully at the Royal University Hospital on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the age of 88 years with her daughter by her side. Irene was born in Ens, SK December 8, 1930 to Joe and Margaret (Rahovich) Zsombor. At a country dance she met her future husband Peter Michayluk. After Irene and Peter were married, they lived at various rural schools where Peter taught for many years. In 1957 Irene gave birth to Deborah their only daughter, as Irene was diagnosed with cancer after that. The family lived in various communities such as Cudworth, Wakaw, Saskatoon and then moved to Prince Albert in 1967 and remained there until they moved to Wakaw Lake in 1982. Irene and Peter, along with their daughter Deborah, owned and operated the Wakaw Lake Lodge at Poplar Beach from 1962-1985. There they eagerly continued to entertain and feed friends and family over the years. Irene was a fantastic hostess who made everyone feel welcome in her home. Irene was diagnosed with MS in 1989. She was fortunate to have the slow moving type which allowed her to travel, visit her sisters, go out to her favourite restaurants and visit Deborah for a number of years until it slowed her down in 2016. Irene leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her loving daughter Deborah, her sisters Ann Stuber and Goldie Verbeem, her sisters-in-law Jean, Frances and Fay Michayluk, her brothers-in-law Murray (Hayven) Curd and Jim Betemps, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Irene was predeceased by the love of her life and husband Peter, her parents, her sisters Clara Betemps and Eva (Alec) Fraser; her brothers-in-law Sid Stuber and George Verbeem as well as all the Michayluk brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. and the Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Both Services will be held in the Chapel of Kushneryk Funeral Service in Wakaw with Rev.
