It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Floyd Wesley Gunter at the age of 85. Floyd was born December 29, 1933 to Francis Arthur Gunter and Uleah Gunter in Hillandale, SK.
Floyd met the love of his life, Grace Gunter in Melfort and were married in 1964. They would later have two children, Blair and Val and moved to Prince Albert in 1967. Floyd spent his entire career working as an Electronics Technician, with stints in Melfort Electric, D.N.R. (which is now Sask Environment), CBC, National School of Dental Therapy before finally starting his own business, Techtronics Services Ltd., which he later sold and is now GL Mobile Communications. He was a member of the Prince Albert Chess Club for years and was quite good; he has his name on a few trophies. He was an avid hockey fan, he coached minor hockey for a while, and both him and Mom had Raider season tickets for years, and later he would follow the Melfort Mustangs. He was also a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, but only when they were winning.
Even at an early age, Dad always loved the outdoors and hated being “cooped up” inside. He would always be outside doing something; tinkering, gardening or keeping his yard in tip top shape. We spent many of our weekends and summers camping all over Saskatchewan or spending time at one of our cabins at Emma Lake, Lower Fishing Lake or Wapaweeka Lake, which he built on his own out of logs. He loved spending time with his family and the grandchildren. When he retired, Dad and Mom moved back to Melfort in 1991 and he would spend countless days fishing, golfing, and hanging out with his closest friends and relatives and his Mom (Grandma Uleah).
Dad and Mom would make many trips down to Texas and Arizona during the winter months and sometimes would take Grandma Uleah with them on their journeys. During retirement, Dad and Mom found a new love for Country Dancing and taught that for many years in the local area. Dad also got quite involved with politics and would volunteer for whatever Party he thought should be running the country that year, and would never shy away from a good debate on politics. He was also very involved with the family genealogy.
Floyd will be dearly missed and remembered by, his son, Blair Gunter (Louise Fornal) and their daughters Kristen and Megan, and his daughter, Val Gunter. He will also be missed by his many friends and cousins, nieces and nephews of the Gunter, Reid, Orr, Armstrong, Smeenks, Woods, and Ledger families.
Floyd was predeceased by his parents Francis Arthur Gunter and Uleah Gunter, his loving wife Grace Gunter and his brother Alfred (Avril) Gunter.
At Floyd’s request no Funeral Service will be held. Those wishing to send condolences for the family can visit the website at www.fedusiakfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements entrusted to Fedusiak Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Melfort, SK.
