Shirley Receveur

Shirley Ann Receveur (nee McLean) was born on Thursday, August 11, 1932, in Hudson Bay, SK, and peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 86 years. The only daughter of a CN railway man (Jim McLean) and his British war bride wife (Rita), Shirley moved with her parents across Manitoba and Saskatchewan many times. However they spent the bulk of Shirley’s childhood living in Winnipeg, MB, New Osgood, SK, and Parkside, SK. Shirley moved to Prince Albert in 1952 to pursue a nursing education at the Holy Family Hospital Nursing College, where she graduated as an RN in 1955. She worked primarily as a home care nurse in Prince Albert, with VON and Parkland Homecare, for the duration of her career until she retired in 1997.
Shirley met the love of her life, Louis, in Prince Albert in 1954 and they married on what was said to be the coldest day in the winter of 1958 (Feb 15). Together they had four children, Patti (Blair), Jim (Lise), Carol (Luke) and David (Faith); twelve grandchildren, Meagan, Joel (Marissa), Scott, Lisa (Andrew), Daniel (Courtney), Lindsy (Walter) Jacob (Michelle), Celine (Tobias), Dawson, Zach, Noah, Marcus; and one great-grandchild, Ella. Her endless capacity for love meant she also had enough for bonus foster- grandchildren like Josh and Trista.
Shirley loved to have fun, to dance, knit, curl, play cards, read, travel and shop. Shirley and Louis traveled extensively (one might say Shirley shopped her way) across the world, often in the company of good friends such as the Wards, Schais, Blacks and her in laws, Jerry and Doreen Receveur. However, Shirley was the happiest in the company of her family, be it spending summers at Emma Lake, Christmas’ in Calgary, AB, or their many special trips to Copenhagen, DK. She also grew to dearly love her Good Sheppard Villas “family” during the eight years she lived there.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Louis; her granddaughter, Meagan; and in-laws, Muril, Terrence, Yvette, Doris and Robert. She is survived, and will be dearly missed by, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her in-laws, Jerry & Doreen Receveur and Beulah Receveur; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and foster grandchildren, all of whom are better for knowing her.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at River Park Funeral Home, 301 River Street West, Prince Albert, SK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in Shirley’s name, to the Victoria Union Hospital Foundation.
