John Joseph Szopko was born on Saturday, April 12, 1922, in Steep Creek, SK, and passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019, in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 96 years. John spent a lot of his later years working in his garden and keeping up his house as well as working on cars, before suffering a stroke in 2011. He spent the last 8 years of his life living at Golden Hill in the Herb Bassett Home. John is survived by his son, Jack from Edmonton, AB; his daughter, Lorraine from Prince Albert, SK; his grandchildren, Steven Daniels, Stacey Daniels (Russell Pilling), Josh Hewison, JR Hewison, and Michael Hewison; as well as several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Phyllis Szopko (nee McKinnon) in 1982; his daughter, Louise Daniels in January 2017. Family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff at Golden Hill for their kindness, understanding and patience towards John and his family. John’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 1, 2019, at River Park Funeral Home, 301 River Street West, Prince Albert, SK, Reverend Dr. Tony Thompson officiating.
