(Gerry) Gerald Alan Wingham
June 24, 1949 — January 11, 2019
Dad passed away peacefully at his home in Prince Albert SK on January 11, 2019. Dad was born in Melfort SK to Margaret Eva Wingham (nee – McLaren) and George Steven Reginald Wingham. Dad finished schooling in Melfort and graduated from MCCI. Dad found his love for work in the automobile industry working for Ford Canada in parts and then moved into sales with Ford until his retirement. Dad loved car sales and could sell anything to anyone at any time and you just couldn’t help but become fast friends with Gerry and then……… buy a car. Dad loved all sports and loved to chat about them all with his many many friends; but there was one very special sport that Dad loved above all; and that was a good game of horse shoes. Dad won many tournaments in this sport and loved to just sling the shoes for the fun and to teach his kids and grandkids the sport.
Gerry was very proud of his children often calling them his greatest accomplishment in life. His daughters Leslie Wingham, Sherry Wingham, Stacey Sanford (Wingham), his sons Alan Wingham and George Wingham were the apple of his eye as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren who only knew him as “GP”. He said it sounded younger than Grandpa. Dad will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who bought cars from him.
Dad carried this saying with him in just about everything he owned:
“I might not be someone’s first choice but I am a great choice. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not, because I’m good at being me. I might not be proud of some of the things I’ve done in the past …… but I’m proud of who I am today. Take me as I am ….. or watch me as I walk away.”
Gerry is survived by his father George Wingham; his brother Reg Wingham and sister Debbie Wingham; Gerry’s children, Leslie Wingham (Todd Backstrom), Sherry Wingham, Alan Wingham, Stacey Sandford (Darrell Sanford) and George Wingham; as well as many family members and friends. Gerry was predeceased by his mother Margaret Wingham as well as many other family members.
In lieu of other tributes the family requests that you make a donation in Gerry Wingham’s name to the charity of your choice. A private family interment will be set for a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
