Robert Milne

Robert “Bob” Gordon Milne passed on to the spirit world at 12:00 midnight on January 1, 2019 amidst the New Year’s Eve fireworks and gun blasts.
He was born at 1:00 a.m. during a lightning storm on August 28, 1937 in Kenora, ON, to John “Jock” Milne and Mary Kroeger-Milne. Robert was the first born of 7 children. At the age of 3 years, they moved to the family farm in Garrick, SK. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Northland School until 16 years old, when his father had a stroke, and Robert had to leave school to help tend to the farm.
At 21 years old, Robert moved to New Westminster, BC, to work in a plywood factory and a gas station. In 1960 at 23 years old he moved back to Saskatchewan and started training as a Smoke Jumper at La Ronge for the Saskatchewan Government Fire Control Branch. He enjoyed his time as a firefighter and smoke jumper and would tell many stories of parachuting from a Norseman or a single Otter aircraft from 18,000 to 25,000 feet into fires. He was a firefighter/smoke jumper for 7 and a half years, and made a total of 97 static line jumps. He said the work was hard but very fulfilling.
In 1968 Robert started working for the government in the mining and drilling industry. He was an Engineer and Shift Boss at the Anglo Rouyn Mine in La Ronge, a Prospector Supervisor for P.I.P. and an Operations/Office Manager at the SeaBee Mine North of La Ronge. During this time Robert also worked as a Commercial Fisherman and a Fur Trapper. After leaving SeaBee he worked as a Corrections Officer for the Justice Department for 17 years until retirement.
Robert is survived by his loving family, his children, Sandra (Frank) Clinton, Peter (Sandra) Milne, Kathy (Gilbert McCallum) Lavallee, Rudy Milne; his grandchildren, Frank Jr (Dominique) Clinton, Ammarie (Jon Fraser) Clinton, Johnathon (Sam John) Milne, Kenneth (Katelynn Thimpsen) Milne, Alice Milne, Sandy Milne, Thompson (Ruby McKenzie) Venne, Rayden Lavallee, Charles McCallum; his great-grandchildren, Dominic Verbeke, Dana Verbeke, Serenity Clinton, Jack Vanderkraft, Nakayla Milne, Linda Milne, Thompson Jr Lavallee, Nickale Lariviere, Aarora Venne; his brothers, Edward Milne, Ken (Betty) Milne; his sisters, Geraldine (Scott) Hayes; his brothers-in-law, Ray Tatlow, Martin Yungwirth, Edward Quiring; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandsons, Robert Clinton, Gordon Milne; his sisters, Bonnie Tatlow, Ruby Yungwirth, Marion Quiring; his parents, John & Mary Milne.
