It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, and friend. Lenora Friesen passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the age of 89. She was born April 26, 1929, in Prince Albert to her loving parents, Wilfred and Louise Stubbs. Her farm upbringing in the Spruce Home area prepared her for life in a practical way. After her schooling at Elk Range School and PACI, she spent the next three years training to become a registered nurse at the Victoria Hospital, a vocation she truly loved.
In 1950, she married Alvin Friesen and spent the next 57 years as a couple. Because of steady employment and an expanding family, 34 years were spent raising her four children and making life-long friends in Biggar, Saskatchewan. She also enjoyed using her nursing skills at both the Biggar Union Hospital and the Diamond Lodge care home.
After Alvin retired from the railroad in 1986, they made the big move back to Prince Albert to be closer to family, resume old friendships and make new. Lenora spent many hours caring for others and entertaining. She was a talented cook and her skills were appreciated by many at the dinner table.
Her hobby interests were numerous and varied. She sewed wardrobes for her girls, her mother, herself and many in-between. That, along with embroidery, crocheting, knitting, painting and paper tole, made her an interesting lady with a project on the go at any given time.
Her spiritual life was of great importance to her and as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she spent time sharing the Bible’s hope with others. Many of their travels took Lenora and Alvin to conventions throughout the world. She traveled to Africa, Asia, Europe and enjoyed times with family in Hawaii, the States and Waskesiu (being an all-time favorite.)
She will be deeply missed by her children Valerie (Art) Hamilton, Lynn (Terry) Hunchak, Dale (Delphine) Friesen and Donna (Ole) Norgaard, her twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous other friends and relatives.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Mont St. Joseph’s for the care and compassion shown to our mother during the time she was a resident of the facility.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4350 2nd Avenue West, Prince Albert on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 2:00 pm
We look forward to a time when tears, death, and sorrow are a thing of the past. Rev 21:4
