It is with great sadness, the family of Mary Ozimirski (nee Baycer), announces her peaceful passing on December 26, 2018 at Birchview Nursing Home in Birch Hills. Mary was born on September 7, 1932 on a farm near Tarnopol, SK. Mary met Walter Ozimirski, a former Polish soldier who came to Canada in 1947 and worked on a farm in Tarnopol. Walter and Mary were married on October 15, 1950. Mary was a hard working farm wife, raising cattle, chickens and pigs. As most farm wives did, Mary had an enormous garden which yielded vegetables that were canned or frozen to provide food for the family. Cream was separated and fresh butter was churned in the pumphouse. Mary also worked hard on the land, clearing bush, hauling grain and bales and whatever else needed to be done on a small mixed farming operation. Mary and Walter sold the farm in 1976 and moved to Prince Albert. Mary worked briefly at the P.A. Daily Herald and then became quite well-known as the sewing/fabric expert with Walmart until her retirement in 1997. Mary was grateful for the opportunity to travel with friends and family. She travelled across Canada from Victoria to the Maritimes. She especially enjoyed her international travels to places like Florida, Germany, Israel, Bosnia, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Greece, and China. Her last trip was to celebrate her 75th birthday when she went on an Alaskan cruise with her daughter Rita. Failing health caused Mary to move to Birchview in September 2017 where she received excellent care. Left to mourn her passing are daughter Rita Sperling and son-in-law Ted; grandchildren Steven (Leah) and Courtney (Mitch); sister Josephine Kosmynka; nephew Michael Kosmynka (Lynn) and their son Ryan; nieces Henryka Stachura and Monika Durlak and their families in Mississauga, ON and family members in Poland. Also left to cherish her memory are very special friends, Kim and Roman Orynik, their children Jared Orynik (Jana), Jennifer Eveleigh (Travis) and Adrian Orynik (Alyssa) and their families. Mary was predeceased by her husband Walter; infant daughter Cecilia; parents Mary and Joseph Baycer; brother-in-law Alex Kosmynka as well as family in Poland.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Birchview for their loving and gentle care during Mary’s stay and especially during her final days. In lieu of other tributes, donations can be made to Birchview Home, Birch Hills, SK SOJ OGO.
