Born September 6, 1930, in Hague, SK., Peter passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on November 22, 2018, at Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert SK. 

The fourth of ten children born to William and Katherine Dyck, Peter grew up on the family farm southeast of Rosthern. He attended school on Arma Road, completing elementary school there.  He went to Winnipeg to train to be a barber in 1951. After his yearlong training, he moved to Watson to barber, then moved to Prince Albert in 1953 at the age of 23 to become the youngest barber in Prince Albert.  He worked in several shops before starting his own business in 1965.  He set up in several different locations in the downtown area, known first as the Clip Shop and later the Hair Design Centre.   He made the hard decision to move from his downtown location and semi-retire from barbering in late 2007.  He did continue to work with a few long-time customers over the next 4 years, more so for the chance to chat and visit with the occasional haircut thrown in. He cut the hair of many people over the years, including Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, a high light of his career.  Many people in Prince Albert can claim their first haircut was under the scissors of Peter Dyck, with fond memories of going up and down in his barber chair and sitting on the board placed on the armrests to be at the right height!

Peter met Shirley Dubray in 1954, and by August 1955 they were married in Hagen SK, at the Nazarene Church.  They moved to their first home on 10th Street East, where they lived until 1958 when they moved to their home on 28th Street East. Their daughter Sherri was born in October of 1960, making them a family of three. They stayed there until January of 1963 when they made one final move to their home on 21st Street, where they welcomed their first son, Randy, born in February of that same year.  They welcomed Brad in 1966 and Melanie completed their family in 1969. 

The family expanded even more with the addition of a son in law, two daughters in law, and grandchildren.  Ben, Kristin, Ryan, Danae, Stefan, Dante, Jensen, Camryn, Katherine, Jonathan, Calleigh, and Shiloh made his world happier and more colorful.  As his grandchildren grew and great-grandchildren began to arrive, his heart grew even bigger. Austin, Amber, Dawn-Marie, Shaelin, Sam, Ethan, Ziva, Ezra, Kelsey, Kylie and Seth all added joy to his life. 

Peter was known not only for being a long-time barber in Prince Albert but also for his love of photography.  The only time he was without a camera in hand would have been when he was cutting hair or sleeping.  He loved to take pictures of anything that caught his eye –   children, flowers, mountains, sunsets, lakes, weddings, graduations… if it could be captured by a camera lens, Peter did.

Peter’s faith was important to him.  He attended the Nazarene Church in PA since before he and Shirley married, and until his health kept him from going, he attended every Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday nights. He was in the church choir for a number of years; he was a board member for several years, the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and an usher. He loved music and enjoyed going to all the musicals that played in the church over the years.  

Peter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley, his four children, and their families:

Sherri (Jim) McCloy; Ben (Becky) Austin, Dawn-Marie, and Sam, Kelsey, Kylie, and Seth; Kris (Tim) Alcock, Amber, Shaelin and Ethan; Ryan (Rebecca), Ziva and Ezra

Randy (Laura); Danae, Dante, Jensen, Camryn, Calleigh, and Shiloh

Brad (Kim);  Katherine and Jonathan

Melanie, his brothers, and sister Jack, Ann, John, Dan and George, Special nieces and nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents William and Katherine Dyck, his grandson Stefan Dyck, his granddaughter in law Sebrina McCloy, his brothers Henry, Bill, Herman, and sister Sarah.
