Doris “Dot” Irene Kyler (nee Flynn) passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 98, on August 17, 2018, at the Birchview Nursing Home in Birch Hills.
Dot was born in Binscarth, Manitoba on July 10, 1920, to Arthur Gerald Flynn and Winifred Daisy Flynn (nee Foord) in the best strawberry season the area had seen in years. She was the oldest child and only girl.
Dot was raised and attended school in Birtle, Manitoba, where she excelled in her studies. She loved all sports in her youth, especially baseball. Dot loved telling stories of her younger brothers Gerald “Bud” Flynn and Austin “Geordie” Flynn regarding the mischief they could find. Life on the farm was not for Dot but it left a lasting love affair with horses and watching equestrian sports. Shortly after leaving the farm she was “set up” on a blind date and met her husband of 61 years. Dot married Donald Lynn Kyler on November 18, 1940, in Kingston Ontario and they were blessed with two children, Keith Donald Kyler, October 1, 1941, and Kerry Lynn Kyler, August 12, 1946. The young couple lived for a short while in Minnedosa, Manitoba and when Don returned from the war they moved to Saskatchewan. Don and Dot lived and raised their children in Prince Albert. Dot was an active member of the UCW for Wesley United Church, were they attended faithfully. She believed, first and foremost, in always doing for others before herself and expressed this in all that she did. Dot enjoyed her working years at Woolworths Dept. Store, Co-op Drug Store and finally the Medical Pharmacy as a cosmetician. She provided beauty and skin care advice to the women of Prince Albert, always carrying herself with charm, dignity, and class and, of course, never left the house without a fresh application of lipstick. She was a fantastic storyteller with a sharp wit and enjoyed finding the humor in all that life threw her way. After retirement, they moved to Penticton, B.C. to enjoy a more temperate climate. Don passed away peacefully in Penticton, October 17, 2001. Dot then moved back to Prince Albert for a short while before moving in with her daughter, Kerry in Birch Hills. Recently, Dot chose to enter Birchview Nursing Home and would often mention the care and attention she received from the staff and how grateful she was to be there. She was a bright light in this world that will be sorely missed. Her memory will be cherished by all that had the good fortune to know her and all that were loved by her.
Dot’s memory will be cherished by her children Keith Donald Kyler and Kerry Lynn Kyler, son in law Ralph Downey, grandchildren Kristal (Marcus) Larsen nee Kyler, Jai Robinson, Heather Lundquist nee Robinson, great- grandchildren Austin Larsen, Sydney Larsen, Kiara Lundquist, Shane Lundquist, and Tyneal Lundquist as well as numerous other nieces ,nephews relatives and friends.
Dot was predeceased by her husband Donald Lynn Kyler, her parents Arthur Gerald Flynn, Winifred Daisy Flynn (nee: Foord) her two siblings Bud Flynn, Geordie Flynn, and her aunt Alice Bullard (nee: Foord).
Dot will be laid to rest in Birtle, Manitoba alongside her parents. Her celebration of life will be held in Birtle as well on August 31, 2018, 1:00 p.m.
