Rodolphe Gignac

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rodolphe Leon Gignac at the Victoria Hospital on February 28, 2018. Rodolphe was born to Marie and Donat Gignac in the family home in Albertville, SK on July 18, 1926. He was the middle child of 13 siblings, and once he was school age he walked 2 miles to school along with his siblings. He was self-taught playing the violin and guitar. He and his siblings spent countless hours in musical “disharmony”! Rodolphe worked in British Columbia for 4 years felling trees prior to returning to Albertville for a lifelong career in farming and carpentry. He was extremely proud of felling an 11-foot diameter hemlock tree on Vancouver Island in the early 1950’s. On June 12, 1951, Rodolphe married Georgette Lavoie in Albertville. Rodolphe always loved the outdoors and fishing. He won first prize for catching a 36 lb. lake trout at a fishing derby in Waskesiu – the occasion made the Prince Albert Daily Herald! He was always ready to participate in sporting activities regardless of his age. At 76 years, he tore both hamstrings and biceps running to first base at a family reunion gathering! He was colourful to the ankles! And very fortunate to have a physiotherapist daughter. Rodolphe was proud of the fact that he heard his sister Elise’s first cry, and that he was her godfather. Aside from the tragic loss of his 3 children, his disappointments were very few. He was not happy about losing at cards! And he wished he could score better than Jackie at golf! Rodolphe is survived by his daughters Jackie McInnis and Yolande (Roy) Fearon; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his siblings Rose Boutin, Matilda Dussault, Ubald (Flore) Gignac, Sister Angeline Gignac, Raymond (Gaetane) Gignac and Elise Brule; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Georgette; his children Vivian Mayoh, Darlene Dion and Rock Gignac; his siblings Lucienne Brassard, Emelda Chenier, Lucien Gignac, Dorelice Cloutier, Damien Gignac, and Sister Helene Gignac. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Riverbreeze Retirement Center for the excellent care and compassion shown to our Dad in his final years. Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at St. James Parish, Albertville, SK with Father Millan Sajonas officiating. Interment will be held at Albertville Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to Albertville Cemetery Fund. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
