Ellen Ingrid Lokinger
November 10 1947 – February 28, 2018 (age 70)
It is with great sadness we share the passing of Ellen Lokinger (nee Lewis) on February 28th 2018 at Candle Lake, SK. Ellen passed away at home, with family at her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ellen was born in Watson, Saskatchewan in 1947, youngest daughter to Arthur and Verna Lewis. Ellen is survived by her loving husband Dennis; and sons: Rob (Suzanne Birgeneau), Joe (Bree Meyers), David (Stephanie); and her older sister: Mardele Harland (Fred). Ellen touched the lives of many people during her time, but most of all her grandchildren: Johnathan, Evan, Katie and Beth-Ellen; who will miss her dearly.
Upon completing her education at the University of Saskatchewan, Ellen’s sense of adventure and love of teaching lead her to beautiful northern Saskatchewan, where she spent 16 wonderful years in the communities of La Ronge, Pine House and Cumberland House. Following her time in the north, Ellen taught for 15 more years with Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division in Prince Albert.
In retirement, Ellen enjoyed travelling. She volunteered her time to many community initiatives, and she officiated marriages. She also found more time to enjoy her love of painting and music. She sang with choral groups in Prince Albert and Candle Lake. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and many good friends in the communities of Prince Albert and Candle Lake.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ellen may be made to Grandmothers for Grandmothers, the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Prince Albert Food Bank or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Ellen’s Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th St W, Prince Albert, SK, with Reverend Nora Vedress as Officiant. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729)
