Elsie “Irene” WELDEN (Postlethwaite)
June 26, 1924 – November 8, 2017
Irene passed away peacefully on November 8, 2017 at the Herb Bassett Home in Prince Albert, Sask. She was born in Prince Albert on June 26, 1924 to Oswald and Ethel Postlethwaite (Pritchard). She attended King George School and graduated from PACI in 1942. Irene’s first job was with the Bank of Commerce in P.A. She also worked at the Dairy for a short period of time, and had a lengthy career working for the province with the DNS. In the early 50’s Irene, along with her husband Martin, established a successful construction business that serviced Prince Albert and Central and Northern Saskatchewan for over 40 years. Irene spent many years volunteering for the Girl Guides of Canada, and also spent many hours fundraising for various organizations, including Abbeyfield House. Irene was a fabulous cook, a voracious reader, and was a reliable go-to for crosswords. She enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family and friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband Martin in 1999. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Marty (Linda); her daughter Diane Balicki (Dave); her seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with The Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin officiating.
