Ice Wolves bring high level of hockey to Pinehouse Lake
Residents of Pinehouse Lake enjoyed a special visit Thursday by the La Ronge Ice Wolves who were in the northern village for a neutral site game.
“It was awesome,” Coordinator Chris Hansen said. “You could feel the atmosphere in the arena with the fans cheering [them] on and the smiling faces of the kids just experiencing the next level of hockey in Pinehouse.”
The Ice Wolves faced off against the Yorkton Terriers and won the match with a 5-4 score. About two minutes into the second period, Forward Aaron Greyeyes was the first to secure a goal for the team with an assist by Kyle Ford. While the second period went scoreless for the Ice Wolves, they picked up four more goals in the third with two from Daylon Mannon and one a piece by Chad McIIwain and Jake Gudjonson.
Hansen stated approximately 240 people attended the game including much of the youth in Pinehouse. The local elementary school paid for the entry fee for students to go and most of players with Pinehouse Minor Hockey were there as well. The program began four years ago and Hansen noted around 40 players are at practice regularly.
