Six-year-old donates lemonade stand profits to NAR
A six-year-old girl from La Ronge hopes her recent donation to Northern Animal Rescue (NAR) inspires other children to do what they can for local charitable causes.
Geneviève Plante formally made a donation of nearly $1,100 at a special NAR fundraiser Nov. 3 just before the start of the show. She earned most of the funds operating a lemonade stand at the corner of her street this summer, as well as birthday money and help from family and friends. Plante began raising funds for NAR at her birthday party in May, where she came up with a $1,000 goal and asked for cash donations instead of gifts.
“Instead of getting a whole bunch of presents, my mom told me I should collect money,” Geneviève Plante said. “I chose NAR because they save animals.”
In total, Plante raised $150 at her birthday party, then she worked at her lemonade stand 11 times until August and earned another $700. She sold lemonade for $1 per cup, as well as other items like cookies and muffins. Her mother, Kim Plante, said it was Geneviève’s idea to raise money for NAR after she was given the choice to have a regular birthday party with six friends, or a much larger one but with donations instead of gifts.
