Gala highlights outstanding tri-community residents, businesses

Close to 200 people attended the second annual Tri-Community Awards and Recognition Gala hosted Saturday by the La Ronge and District Chamber of Commerce.

That’s according to President Crystal Everest, who said attendees consisted of a diverse group of individuals who came together to celebrate the success of businesses and residents in the region. She noted everyone seemed to network well, adding attendees were able to talk about and learn from the experience of each other. The event took place at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.

“Everyone builds the community,” Everest said. “If you have none of that building and growing in your community, there’s nothing sustaining the community. If we have strong economic development, you have stronger households and stronger social support.”

The winners at the gala were John Jr. Sanderson of Native Strong Apparel for Youth Entrepreneur, Becky McKenzie for Citizen of the Year, The Basement Potter for Artpreneur, Grace Charles for the Post-Secondary Advocacy Award, La Ronge Native Women’s Council for Non-Profit of the Year, Mosquito Workshop for Home-Based Business, Cravings Late Night Food for Food and Beverage Business, Bedrock Electric, Plumbing and Heating for Service, Industry and Trade, and Home Hardware for Retail Business.
