Roughriders promote football at La Ronge jamboree
Students from across the Northern Lights School Division were in La Ronge on the weekend to learn football tips and tricks by members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
It was all part of the Northern Saskatchewan Football League (NSFL) Jamboree, which brought together close to 100 athletes, as well as Saskatchewan Roughriders including by Zach Evans, Ed Gainey, Charleston Hughes, Micah Johnson, Brendon LaBatte and Naaman Roosevelt. The two-day event began Friday with the first practice in the afternoon followed by an entire day of training Saturday. The Roughriders also made themselves available for a steak night fundraiser with all profits going towards the construction of a running track at Churchill Community High School.
“It’s a development piece,” said NSFL Commissioner and Coach Ryan Karakochuk about the jamboree. “It’s a chance to learn the game, it’s a chance to meet professionals and it’s a chance to be able to know [students] will be able to do something moving forward into Grades 9-12. It’s huge.”
