Black Lake First Nation will be the location of a one-week inquest this fall by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

The inquest will look into the death of Ryan Donard, 31, who RCMP believe drowned after he fled from officers on foot into the Fond du Lac River in Stony Rapids. The incident occurred Feb. 25, 2017, as police were investigating a complaint. According to RCMP, Donard disappeared after entering the river.

The Prince Albert Police Service has already conducted an independent investigation into the death and an investigation observer was brought in by the Ministry of Justice. The inquest is set for Sept. 9 to 13 in Black Lake.
