It is with great sadness that we, the family of Steven “Steve” Brent Abrey announce his sudden passing on January 26, 2020 at the age of 54. Steven was born to parents: Roseline “Eline” and Thomas “Ralph” Abrey on July 4, 1965 in Regina, SK. After a few moves, the family settled in the Christopher Lake area where Steven resided until he graduated high school.

Upon completing a meat cutting course, Steven moved to Outlook, SK. It was during this time in Outlook that his beloved son, Brent was born.

Steven had a great passion for many things; golf, canoeing, science fiction, aliens, HGTV, and of course, his beloved Montreal Canadians. He endured a lot of ribbing regarding his favourite hockey team selection, but he never wavered.

Steven’s claim to fame was the fact that he had either resided, visited, or both, almost all of Canada’s provinces and territories. He was quite proud of that fact. It was his love for the north that led him to establishing roots in La Ronge, SK when he resided until his passing.

Our family could hardly believe that he took a job as a baker at the Co-op store in La Ronge. If you knew his penmanship, you would know why. Steven was a quiet reserved man who had a heart of gold. He literally was one of the nicest men you will ever hope to meet, and our mother would be so proud.

He had a strong work ethic that was instilled by our parents at an early age. He was always on the go and was very proud of the home he was building with his partner, Patty.

The heartbreak of losing both parents in a short period of time and the tragic loss of his daughters and three grandchildren rocked him to his core, but the resiliency he learned growing up kept him moving forward. He was “Abrey” strong and definitely “Abrey” stubborn.

Steven is survived by his life partner: Patty Waterfield; his sister: Holly (Bart); his brothers: Peter (Claire) and Paul Bird; and his “little man” Brent. Also mourning his loss is our “adopted” family member: Sandra Jewell; his 6 fur babies; as well as numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents: Roseline Abrey (Sather) and Thomas “Ralph” Abrey; his daughter: Latasha Gosling; and her children: Jenika, Landen and Janayah.

The saddest day of his life was when he lost his daughter and her precious angels in such a tragic way. Now he gets to be with them again. Rest in peace sweet brother, husband, father. Until we meet again, you are forever in our hearts.
