Fire ban lifted for tri-communities

May 20, 2020 | 5:00 PM

A fire ban put in place earlier this month for the tri-communities has been rescinded effective immediately.

That’s according to a public notice issued May 20, which stated the fire ban is lifted for La Ronge, Air Ronge and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band Reserves 156 and 156B. The La Ronge Regional Fire Department will also resume issuing burn permits.

The fire ban was lifted because significant moisture has fallen to reduce the fire hazard rating to a low-moderate level. Initially, the fire ban was put in place partly due to ensuring the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the tri-communities remains low.

According to Environment Canada, rain is on its way to La Ronge with 10 to 20 millimetres of precipitation expected this evening. More rain is also expected on Thursday and Friday.
