Case of coronavirus appears in Little Red

A confirmed case of coronavirus has been identified on the Little Red reserve.

That’s according to a Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority Inc. (NITHA) media release, which states the individual is in their late teens and was tested Sept. 26 after developing symptoms. The individual is self-isolating and a contact investigation is underway.

The release notes exposed persons have been notified and are being monitored by Prince Albert Grand Council, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and NITHA officials.

“This new COVID-19 case in one of our communities is a reminder that we all need to stay vigilant and follow the heath guidelines in place,” Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson said. “We do not want to place out communities into lockdown or close the roads the way we needed to early this spring. This virus continues to pose a serious health threat, especially to our Elders and those with compromised immune systems, and we need to prepare ourselves for when the second wave occurs.”
