NLSD advises staff to consider whether travel is ‘truly essential’

Dec 4, 2020 | 5:00 PM

Northern Lights School Division is reminding staff to think twice before deciding to travel.

“When making travel plans with your family, we remind you to consider whether or not your travel is truly essential,” a letter sent to staff from the school division states. “This includes travel within, outside our province or outside of Canada. We are seeing a number of outbreaks declared throughout our province, and in other jurisdictions, putting everyone at increased risk of potential exposure to COVID-19.”

The letter also notes as the public health situation across Canada continues to evolve, it’s important to maintain a united effort between parents, students and school staff to keep northern communities safe. While provincial travel is permitted, it is public health’s recommendation to limit interprovincial travel if possible.

Self-isolation is only mandatory for international travel, but the school division is reminding staff people who enter or re-enter Saskatchewan, they should self-monitor for 14 days and self-isolate at the first sign of even mild coronavirus symptoms.

“As we approach the upcoming holiday, we also ask that you keep your festivities small and defer all interactions with others if you feel any symptoms compatible with COVID-19,” the letter states.

Symptoms of the coronavirus includes fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, chills, runny nose, nasal congestion, conjunctivitis, dizziness, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, taste or smell, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.

“We’re all doing our part, and it is truly remarkable to see the work that can be accomplished when we work together to prevent COVID-19 infections within our daily bubbles at school and home,” the letter states.
