La Ronge council approves hiring economic development coordinator

Dec 17, 2020 | 4:52 PM

An economic development coordinator could soon join the Town of La Ronge staff.

An ad for the position was posted Dec. 10 and the successful individual hired will be responsible for leading a range of programs, services, initiatives and activities related to business outreach, local economic development, and providing assistance to individuals or companies interested in locating or expanding their business to La Ronge.

“That was something that was earmarked by the previous council,” La Ronge Mayor Colin Ratushniak said. “That was another request from residents and we all feel it’s necessary sitting at the table as far as I am concerned. It’s the only way we can deliver on bringing more businesses and future support to get La Ronge to where I think its capabilities are.”

The coordinator would also be responsible for developing and maintaining economic development and marketing strategy, as well as promoting the sale of community-owned commercial and industrial lots.

The successful candidate will need to hold either a diploma or university degree with at least three to five years of municipal or government experience. The salary for the position is up to $67,500.

Ratushniak explained the duties for such an employee still needs to be determined by council.

“I don’t have any further details on that at this moment. It’s very preliminary and it’s not something that has come up on the table yet,” he said. “I think the biggest thing we can all agree on is downtown needs some very specific work to revitalize it. That for me, personally, would be a main area of concern we need to address.”

The application period for the position closes Jan. 11, 2021.
