Saskatchewan’s hopes of reaching the playoffs at the Tim Hortons Brier remained alive after Saturday’s afternoon draw.

Matt Dunstone and his Regina-based team of Braeden Moskowy, Kirk Muyres and Dustin Kidby beat Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs 5-4 in championship pool play to improve to 8-3 at the Canadian men’s curling championship in Calgary.

Entering Saturday evening’s final draw, Saskatchewan is tied for second in the standings with Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher, Team Canada’s Brad Gushue and the Wild Card 3 entry skipped by Wayne Middaugh. Kevin Koe’s Wild Card 2 team is in first place at 9-2.

Ontario’s John Epping is still alive at 7-4, while Jacobs and Manitoba’s Jason Gunnlaugson are out of playoff contention with 6-5 records.
