Travel restrictions remain in place for some LLRIB members

Road monitoring is back in place this week in Morin Lake.

The announcement was made in a public notice from Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) Coun. Norman Ross. The notice states non-community members will not be permitted to enter Morin Lake with an exception for essential services.

Morin Lake residents are still permitted to leave the community and return for medical trips, groceries and traditional pursuits.

“Everyone is encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing when going into public places outside our communities,” the notice adds. “We would like to remind the community members to continue respecting the social distancing guidelines by staying home and avoiding any non-essential travel out of the community. Community members are strongly encouraged not to travel south, including Regina or Saskatoon.”

The notice states the monitoring of travel in and out of the community is required to protect the health of community members. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or one of its variants.

Non-residents of Stanley Mission are still not permitted to enter the community, but earlier this week, locals were permitted to leave the community and return for medical trips and to practice Treaty rights.

“Community members need to take some personal responsibility while out of the community,” a letter from the Stanley Mission Emergency Control Group states. “Please reconsider your trips south. It is high risk to be travelling into the cities and avoid large gatherings, wakes and funerals.”

Those leaving the community must show a valid driver’s license and agree to fill out the appropriate forms. Those entering will have their temperature checked and anyone with a fever over 37.8 C is required to travel directly home, self-isolate and contact the clinic for instructions.
