Deadline looms for wellness centre naming contest

May 28, 2021 | 1:02 PM

May 31 is the upcoming deadline to submit names for the soon-to-be-completed wellness, healing and recovery centre near La Ronge.

“The project management team (PMT) is proud to share that construction of the wellness centre will be complete by the end of 2021 and we hope to have our first clients in the first half of 2022,” a public notice states. “As we get closer to the opening of the facility, the PMT is looking for assistance from our community members. We are looking for suggestions for a permanent name for the facility and some of its key rooms.”

When entering the contest, which the public can do so here, individuals will need to submit contact information, two suggested names for the centre, as well as names for the multi-purpose room and traditional room. A brief description must also be submitted as to why the names are being suggested.

The multi-purpose room is a large event room at the front of the building and represents one of the main gathering areas. The tradition room will be used for various cultural ceremonies.

“The PMT is offering five $100 gift certificates to Keethanow Supermarket for the top five suggestions as determined by the PMT,” the notice reads. “The PMT will review the provided suggestions at our June PMT meeting and will make the selections.”

The facility will be nearly 20,000-square-feet with 24 beds and was made possible through an $11.6 million commitment from the federal government, $2.5 million from the provincial government and $2 million from the band itself. The other five Lac La Ronge Indian Band communities will have mini healing lodges constructed to provide aftercare in their areas.
