Flying Dust teacher identified as Meadow Lake murder-suicide victim

A 34-year-old woman from Flying Dust First Nation identified as Charlene Graham is being mourned by her community. Graham was the victim in an apparent murder-suicide at Lions Park Campground in Meadow Lake last Sunday.

She was a mother to two children and an elementary school teacher.

Social media was flooded with immediate reaction after learning the incident was being investigated as a murder-suicide. One family member stated in a post on Facebook that the tragedy was “by far the worst” that has happened to her family.

Meadow Lake Tribal Council Cree Vice Chief Richard Derocher also offered his sentiments, saying he is devastated by the loss.

Immediately following the news of the incident, Flying Dust First Nation announced the community would be cancelling a powwow scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

Meadow Lake RCMP responded to reports of shots fired at the campground at around 2:44 p.m. on Aug. 30.

Upon arrival, officials discovered Graham’s body located outside of the trailer. CBC reported the family identified the shooter as Charlene’s estranged husband, Delane, who then took his own life while inside the camper.
