COVID OUTBREAK

COVID-19 outbreak at La Ronge RCMP detachment

Sep 23, 2021 | 9:35 AM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the RCMP detachment in La Ronge.

The SHA declared the outbreak status on Monday, making it the sixth active outbreak in the Far North region. The others are in Meadow Lake and Pinehouse.

An outbreak is announced when two or more positive cases are confirmed in a non-household setting.

The SHA said the outbreak will be listed on its website until officially declared over by an SHA medical health officer.

In a statement sent to larongeNOW, Saskatchewan RCMP said the detachment remains open to the public and protocols are in place to reduce the risk of transmission. This includes physical distancing and personal protective equipment (PPE). RCMP said the La Ronge Detachment and police vehicles are routinely disinfected as per current health authority instructions.

“The Saskatchewan RCMP has protocols in place to ensure detachments maintain required resource levels,” the statement. “Currently, La Ronge RCMP has adequate civilian employees and police officers available. Resources from other Saskatchewan RCMP detachments and/or units will be immediately deployed to La Ronge if the need arises.”

The statement goes on to say that out of respect for employees’ rights to privacy, the number of people infected and their names are not being released.
