Teepee stolen from La Ronge’s Churchill Community High School
A teepee was stolen overnight from the Churchill Community High School grounds in La Ronge.
It was erected on Wednesday as community school coordinator Tanner Tinker had planned to use it for cultural activities throughout the week. When he and other staff members arrived at the school Thursday, it was gone.
“I’ve been setting stuff up for my students for cultural events,” he said. “I’m having bannock on a stick, storytelling, drumming and smudging from Wednesday to Friday. That was originally the plan and we were going to rope it into the teepee. On Friday, our school is doing a Walk for Wendjack and we were going to do some teachings after our walk at the teepee.”
The teepee is described as white in colour, 10 feet high and wide with Velcro straps and brass grommets. The school was renting the teepee from local Elder Alex Halkett.
