La Loche Mayor Georgina Jolibois, who is also the NDP candidate for Athabasca, is still waiting to hear back about a letter she wrote to Premier Scott Moe with questions about his recent northern tour.

Moe was in northern Saskatchewan on Jan. 10 visiting Buffalo Narrows, Pinehouse Lake and most notably La Loche where he announced the location of a new $24 million facility to replace Ducharme Elementary Community School. The announcement was held in the school’s gymnasium with children present and Moe later tested positive for COVID-19 using a rapid test on Jan. 13.

“My main concern was he was going into the elementary school where there were unvaccinated kids,” Jolibois said. “I would like to know what the plan will be if there are increases in cases.”

Jolibois explained she had been contacted by those who attended the event, some of whom had been notified about being a close contact and others who were not notified. She wants Moe to work with public health officials to ensure all potential close contacts are notified.
