Date set for upcoming byelection in Athabasca

The date has been set for the upcoming Athabasca byelection.

In a media release issued by the provincial government on Tuesday, it was stated the byelection has been set for Feb. 15.

There are currently three confirmed candidates for the region including the Sask. Party’s Jim Lemaigre, Georgina Jolibois with the NDP and Darwin Roy running as an independent.

The seat has been vacant since last August after longtime NDP MLA Buckley Belanger left for an unsuccessful run in the 2021 federal election.

“It’s important that Athabasca residents are represented in the assembly in the upcoming spring sitting of the Legislature,” Premier Scott Moe said in the release.
