Ice Wolves take on Broncos in playoff action tonight at the Mel

Residents of the tri-communities are encouraged to back the pack by attending tonight’s hockey game at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.

The La Ronge Ice Wolves will be taking on the Humboldt Broncos in Game 3 of the first round in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) playoffs. The series in currently tied at 1-1.

“It’s going to be a really exciting atmosphere at the rink tonight,” said Ice Wolves board member Randy Johns. “The games in Humboldt were really intense and really fast hockey. There was everything you can want in a hockey game.”

Happy Hour in the Wolves Den will start at 6:30 p.m. with face-off to occur at 7:30 p.m. Fans are asked to wear Ice Wolves jerseys, gear or clothing that is teal to show support for the team. Cowbells and thundersticks will also be available for purchase and the 50/50 is sponsored by JP Enterprises and will start at $4,000.

“The Mel is known as the loudest rink in the whole SJHL and the fans are like the seventh player,” Johns said. “You can make a real difference in the game. The louder the fans are, the better the boys play and the better chance we have of taking these games.”

The first two games of the series occurred in Humboldt. The Broncos won the March 18 game by 6-4 and the Ice Wolves won March 19 by 2-0.

The two teams will play Game 4 tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
