Fire ban declared for tri-communities

Jun 1, 2022 | 1:27 PM

A fire ban is in effect as of June 1 for the tri-communities.

That’s according to a notice issued by the La Ronge Regional Fire Department, which stated the ban is supported by the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Air Ronge, La Ronge and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. The ban does not include communities outside of the tri-community’s boundaries or the Lac La Ronge Provincial Park.

The ban is for all open fires. Traditional smokers, propane barbecues, propane-fueled fire pits and briquettes are permitted.

“A fire ban has been issued to ensure the risk of wildfire within the tri-communities is eliminated as much as possible,” the notice stated. “This is due to current extreme fire index ratings and the high winds we are experiencing with little to no precipitation in the near future.”
