Industrial arts teacher ready to build a new life in retirement
La Ronge teacher Mel Menz is ready to relax and take in more of the joys in life.
He will officially be retiring from Churchill Community High School at the end of this month. He has been the industrial arts teacher there for more than 20 years.
“I’ve been doing this for a long time. It’s time to move on,” Menz said. “Financially, I think we’re pretty much ready for that. I’m slowing down. This job requires being on your feet perhaps more than some other teaching positions. It is time to take a look at something else and enjoy some of the work that I’ve done.”
Menz was born in Muenster, Sask., about nine kilometres east of Humboldt. He was raised on a farm in the area and graduated from high school in 1972. Menz took one year of university classes and spent some time in British Columbia, before returning to the family farm to work for next three years.
