LLRIB celebrates Treaty Days, voting underway for proposed Election Act changes
Thousands of Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) members are expected to collect their yearly annuity payment in the coming days.
The LLRIB began hosting Treaty Day events in Stanley Mission on Monday, followed by Grandmother’s Bay and Sucker River on Tuesday. Throughout Wednesday, hundreds of band members have been collecting their payment at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre, which began at 9 a.m. and will continue until 7 p.m.
Treaty Days will continue in Hall Lake on Thursday and Little Red River on Friday. Next week, events will be held in Saskatoon on July 26 and Prince Albert on July 27.
Members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and other First Nations in Canada are entitled to a $5 treaty payment each year.
